The 5 Second Rule: Transform Your Life, Work, and Confidence with Everyday Courage

Throughout your life, you've had parents, coaches, teachers, friends and mentors who have pushed you to be better than your excuses and bigger than your fears. What if the secret to having the confidence and courage to enrich your life and work is simply knowing how to push yourself?

Using the science of habits, riveting stories and surprising facts from some of the most famous moments in history, art and business, Mel Robbins will explain the power of a “push moment.” Then, she’ll give you one simple tool you can use to become your greatest self.

It takes just five seconds to use this tool, and every time you do, you’ll be in great company. More than 8 million people have watched Mel’s TEDx Talk, and executives inside of the world’s largest brands are using the tool to increase productivity, collaboration, and engagement.

In The 5 Second Rule, you’ll discover it takes just five seconds to:

I haven’t read a motivational book in a while, and this struck me as a little trite into the middle, then “she has a good point.”, “yes, okay, I’ll stick my toes in”, to “hey, i think this is working!”. How’s that for run-on! Good book, try it.

  • Hopeful

I liked how Mel shared personal stories about herself and the people she encountered through her talks and everyday life. In terms of what I didn’t like, I I think there could be more scientific data and evidence to back up this method. For example, I felt the last three chapters were lacking in this area. However, I will say that I started using this tool last night and it did work. I look forward to putting this method into action every time my fear, anxiety and hesitation creeps up.

  • Watch The TED Talk Instead

I absolutely adore Mel Robbins, but save yourself $10.00 and watch the TED talk or her podcast episode on the 5 Second Rule. You’ll save yourself a lot of time and learn just as much about the 5 Second Rule (and much more) and how she applied it in her own life. The book is overly repetitive and is mostly social media posts and testimonials. Her other book, The High Five Habit, is much better.

I loved her intake and story of the 5 second rule. I love that she put real life stories and messages from readers and spectators. I definitely recommend!
