Arthur Conan Doyle was a writer and physician born in Edinburgh. Doyle is best known for his detective fiction featuring Sherlock Holmes.
Vivian Heller received her Ph.D. in English Literature and Modern Studies from Yale University. She is author of Joyce, Decadence, and Emancipation(University of Illinois Press) and of The City Beneath Us (W.W. Norton & Company), a history of the building of the New York City subway system. She is an associate at Columbia’s School of Professional Studies and is the writing tutor for the Center for Curatorial Studies at Bard College. She is also a long-standing member of the non-fiction committee of the PEN Prison-Writing Committee, which awards prizes to inmates from across the country.

Rarely is a story so gripping from page one! Flying through the pages, I found myself with a deeper admiration for Holmes ( and Conan Doyle), a kindred spirit in Watson, and also an unanticipated empathy and compassion. Likable characters, facilitated by the skilled observations of a physician, are quickly brought to life.
By Missing half of book
I enjoyed the story a lot. It was well written and kept my attention all the way through. It is fun to read about how Sherlock’s mind figures things out. However, I did not enjoy the portion of the book where it talked about Salt Lake City and the “Mormons”. It was very historical inaccurate and portrayed them in a very bad light that many would easily find offensive. That is the only reason for 3 instead of 4 or 5 stars.

This book is a great classic and very addictive, I’m not the fastest reader but I happen to finish this book in 2 nights because I couldn’t put it down
