The 48 Laws of Power Summary

The 48 Laws of Power Summary

The 48 Laws of Power: A Comprehensive Summary

The desire for power is a fundamental human behavior. When one feels that he has no power over others or events, he is likely to be depressed. Everyone wants power. Those who pretend to have no desire for power are either deceiving themselves or attempting to deceive others. Power is like a drug that makes you stronger each time you taste it. The more you get, the more you want.

Even though it is a fundamental human behavior, the desire for power is considered impolite and selfish. It is widely held that those who seek power must seem to have no interest in it, and on the contrary they must pretend to care only about others. The one who can disguise his pursuit of power with his care for others ends up becoming the most powerful. This seems paradoxical but the fact remains that you cannot honestly and forthrightly pursue power. You invariably have to disguise both your means and your ends.

The 48 Laws of Power by Robert Greene is a collection of “laws” based on historical and philosophical anecdotes. These laws are amoral as they themselves don’t take into account any sense of right or wrong. Instead, the laws focus on how one can increase their influence over any situation, regardless of their moral consequences. This book explores the nuances of manipulating people around you for establishing power.

The book focuses on how to gain power in any situation, regardless of whether it’s morally right or wrong, and it uses specific anecdotes from history to illustrate the “rules of power”. These laws may seem scandalously frank, but you can apply them without violating any of the strictures of public morality, which, according to Robert, is the way to get the best results.

  • Good ideas!!!

This book hits the mark on so many levels. I line the concise way things are put. Straight to the point. To master these concepts will take time. Unfortunately, the book dies not list which characteristic to start with. There are some mean things in this book. If one truly seeks power I see how the suggestions here will help you obtain it. My inly this is will you like yourself once you have achieved your goal. But if you actually achieve your goal I don’t think liking yourself will actually matter. I can see myself doing some of the things in this book. But as I am not after power.... I see this as a cookbook for politicians and shred business owners. Every day folk, beware.

  • Well written!!

This book teaches you about your "Power" and how to recognize it in everything you do, especially your profession. It teaches you humility and humbleness and how powerful that is when it's applied. I have two other books in this series and am in the process of reading them all. This particular book does not need to be read cover to cover. You can read on the "48 Laws" as they interest you, not only as the book is written.

  • Filled with valuable laws

This book is filled with cunning strategies and easily adoptive techniques. I can't apply all of them to my daily life (Jesus wouldn't have it), but for the most part, this is the tool I use to stay ahead of the curve...

  • When you finish reading this book...

When you finish reading this book, and assuming you've assimilated the concepts it conveys, you'll gain a new perspective on political speeches and you'll start noticing how certain mainstream media outlets work to reprogram you. It will help you resist this reprogramming.

  • Great summary book!

it is an important read for us to stay relevant in what we do. It doesn't help to be a good person and end up being thrown under the bus unknowingly, this book will help you detect patterns of people who believe in such philosophies so you can deal with them differently. In order to be a good person, you must be more cunning than the baddies so that you could out maneuver them.
