Picoult brings to life a female prosecutor whose cherished family is shattered when she learns that her five-year-old son has been sexually abused.

What does it mean to be a good mother?
How far would you go in the name of love—and justice?

In the course of her everyday work, career-driven assistant district attorney Nina Frost prosecutes child molesters and works determinedly to ensure that a legal system with too many loopholes keeps these criminals behind bars. But when her own five-year-old son, Nathaniel, is traumatized by a sexual assault, Nina and her husband, Caleb, a quiet and methodical stone mason, are shattered, ripped apart by an enraging sense of helplessness in the face of a futile justice system that Nina knows all too well. In a heartbeat, Nina's absolute truths and convictions are turned upside down, and she hurtles toward a plan to exact her own justice for her son—no matter the consequence, whatever the sacrifice.

Reviews
  • Predictable

This book is so cliched and predictable. The characters are difficult to like as well.

  • Best book I have ever read!

This is by far the best book I have ever read, I couldn't put it down. As a mother, it was so easy to get sucked in ams put myself in the main character's shoes. I'm usually mad when I get done ready books because the endings are never satisfying, but this ending couldn't have been better!

  • As a Mother...

As a Mother of two young boys this book is by far the most moving of all Jodi's books. I have read all but a few of her books and have never been so touched by a book. You can easily relate to the main character and put yourself in her shoes. I haven't always been happy with the endings of Jodi's books but this ending is just perfect and gave me chills!!!!

  • Typical Jodi Picoult!

This is the sixth Jodi Picoult book I've read and this one falls write into place with all the rest. In saying that, I was not disappointed. I read the reviews about others not liking the ending. I found myself anxious to get there yet not wanting to because I was afraid it would not be satisfying. But... It was just her style. I teared up just like always. Thank you Jodi for another intriguing book that truly makes you think... What would YOU do?!
