The Affair

The Affair

#1 NEW YORK TIMES BESTSELLER

Everything starts somewhere. For elite military cop Jack Reacher, that somewhere was Carter Crossing, Mississippi, way back in 1997.

A lonely railroad track. A crime scene. A cover-up. A young woman is dead, and solid evidence points to a soldier at a nearby military base. But that soldier has powerful friends in Washington.

Reacher is ordered undercover to find out everything he can and then to vanish. But when he gets to Carter Crossing, Reacher meets local sheriff Elizabeth Deveraux, who has a thirst for justice and an appetite for secrets. Uncertain they can trust each other, they reluctantly join forces. Finding unexpected layers to the case, Reacher works to uncover the truth, while others try to bury it forever. The conspiracy threatens to shatter his faith in his mission—and turn him into a man to be feared.

Don’t miss Lee Child’s short story “Second Son” and a sneak peek of his new novel, A Wanted Man, in the back of the book.

  • The AFFAIR

This book is NOT IN SEQUENCE. It is volume #4, rather than volume #16, as presented by the Apple book library. As others have said, it is nice to learn the background info on Reacher’s separation from the military. Very good supporting characters. Great book. I have read 19 Jack Reacher books. “The Affair” is one of my favorite Reacher books. Just wish I read it in chronological order.

  • The Affair. Lee Child

A very complex affair that has Jack Reacher involved in the lives of many very interesting characters. His lover a small town Mississippi sheriff, and a former marine. A state senator and a killer, possibly related to a state senator. Enjoyed immensely, my highest recommendation!!

  • Great Read with a twist at the end

A great story and I agree with another reviewer who said, “it was nice to get the beginning of Reacher’s journey. “ I used to read all of the books, but then they became too much the same. This one was really good!

  • The Prequel

This should have been the first book written but here we are. We finally get to hear why Reacher is the way he is. As always, too much description of stuff but thank goodness it is written in the First Person. When Child writes as Reacher in the Third Person it is way worse. Oh well, on to the next one.
