A Short History of the World

A Short History of the World

A Short History of the World is a period-piece non-fictional historic work by H. G. Wells first published by Cassell & Co, Ltd Publishing in 1922. It was first published in Penguin Books in 1936. It was republished under Penguin Classics in 2006. The book was largely inspired by Wells's earlier 1919 work The Outline of History.

  • Keep in mind this was written in 1922

I have, and read, his full 2 book set on History of the World. Actually 3 books, book the third was written by another author because Wells died. I love history, read a lot in my almost 7 decades on the planet. His is one of my favorites.

  • Surprisingly lacks research

For an author whose work I admire, this "history" opens with unfounded assumptions. Dismissing the universe's creation is a poor way to begin a history, and concluding that religious teachers no longer accepted the Genesis account is flagrantly opposed to the views of theologians of H.G.'s day. Unfortunately his desire for a humanistic understanding destroys his credibility in reference to history with regards to this work.
