Everyone Here Is Lying

Another thrilling domestic suspense novel from the New York Times bestselling author of The Couple Next Door

“The most addictive book I've read in ages—so slick and disquieting and clever. Just brilliant.” —Lisa Jewell, #1 New York Times bestselling author of The Family Remains

“Lapena is a master of manipulation.” —USA Today

Welcome to Stanhope. A safe neighborhood. A place for families.

William Wooler is a family man, on the surface. But he’s been having an affair, an affair that ended horribly this afternoon at a motel up the road. So when he returns to his house, devastated and angry, to find his difficult nine-year-old daughter, Avery, unexpectedly home from school, William loses his temper.

Hours later, Avery’s family declares her missing.

Suddenly Stanhope doesn’t feel so safe. And William isn’t the only one on his street who’s hiding a lie. As witnesses come forward with information that may or may not be true, Avery's neighbors become increasingly unhinged.

Who took Avery Wooler?

Nothing will prepare you for the truth.

  • Riveting and well done!

There is no worse story in the thriller mystery genre than one who’s antagonist is a child. Nine year old Avery, has oppositional disorder and many other behavioral issues that have caused an a chaotic, emotionally unstable joke for her parents and her older brother Michael. She is manipulated calculating evil and cruel. She is vindictive and plots with such vengeance she’s terrifying not only to her peers whom she has none that will play with her but her own father, brother and even her mother are weary of her. Of the three, the 2 men are terrified of her and her unsuspecting dangerous deeds she is happiest doling out. She is a sociopath with no conscious and her mother is the only one who’s still trying to give her the benefit of the doubt and believes that perhaps she will outgrow this misbehavior and troublesome personality she has shown to have extremely strong ties to at a young age of 9. When he father does something she is very mad about, she decides to make him lay, in this horrific and despicable manner in which she not only hurts her father she harms several others who all live within close proximity to her. The police become involved and even they are under her sadistic and pathological influence until she finally slips up on a public forum,,,, she is the scariest 9 year old I’ve ever read about and I don’t blame the father nor the brother for being terrified of her or for the father of moving out. She is a pathological psychopath
