Salieri rues the fact that his own music never rises above mediocrity, and he remains permanently incensed that God would bless so vulgar and obnoxious a young whippersnapper as Mozart with divine genius. Why is Salieri--so disciplined, so devoted to his art, and so willing to toady to his superiors--not touched by God? Unable to match Mozart's talent, Salieri uses his influence in court to sabotage the young upstart's career. Gregg Masterman (Robert Taylor), a Harvard-schooled Bostonian ensconced in a cushy desk job. Care to guess who will be volunteered to be the aged ship's executive officer? The character of a callow young man who ultimately proves his worth is one Taylor had played before, notably in A Yank at Oxford and Flight Command. A stellar cast – Charles Laughton, Brian Donlevy, Walter Brennan – joins him in a tale that veers into comic waters (the crew become awkward caretakers of a bevy of infants rescued at sea) before steaming full ahead into the strategies and salvos of fiery battle action in the Pacific. Taylor would actually serve as a Navy Air Corps flight instructor during the war. Lovely Marilyn Maxwell, who debuts here, would entertain troops as a member of Bob Hope's USO tours.

Day at the Pool

What if we found out it wasn't actually Shakespeare who wrote A Midsummer Night's Dream? Or if electricity was really discovered by someone other than Edison? A Day at the Pool puts forth an almost equally far fetched hypothesis as it examines the origins of skateboarding. Directors Eric Fulford and Ian Douglass film, Day at the Pool, challenges the validity the 2001 documentary, Dogtown and Z-Boys and it's mainstream account of skateboarding history. A series of interviews with many of the original Z-Boys, including Jay Adams, Tony Alva, Skip Engblom and Stacy Peralta, reveal the existence of a local talent who was skating inside swimming pools before any of the ‘original' pioneers, credited as the sport's founders. Several Z-Boys testify to witnessing a young skateboarder perform maneuvers so profoundly amazing, not even the modern day skate masters could possibly attempt them. The film goes on to present a surprising account of history that first reveals the skateboarder's identity, and then exposes the Z-Boys selfish motivation for keeping his story secret.

Real-life Escadrille combat hero William A. Wellman (The Public Enemy, Battleground) provides the film's story and directs. It's a story close to Wellman's heart…and the last of the nearly 80 films in his renowned career.

Pope Francis - A Pope for Everyone

Jorge Mario Bergoglio is the first Jesuit Cardinal and Latin American to be consecrated Pope of the Catholic Church. On March 13, 2013, the then Archbishop of Buenos Aires and now Pope Francis made history by being elected to replace Benedict, who stepped down in abdication. In his first address as Pope, Francis humbly asked: "And now let us begin this journey, Bishop and people. A path of brotherhood in love, of mutual trust. Pray for us always, and for one another. Let us pray for the whole world, that there might be a great sense of brotherhood. And now I would give the blessing, but first I want to ask you a favor. Before the Bishop blesses the people, I ask that you pray for the Lord to bless me. The prayer of the people for their Bishop. Let us say this prayer - your prayer for me - in silence". In this important work is a documentary that exposes the keen thinking and humility that guides the life of Francis, his simple lifestyle close to the village, and his deep knowledge of theology. With these qualities Bergoglio has earned the trust and sympathy not only of the faithful, but also of much of the public. These remarkable attributes trace the path to his consecration as our Pope. This documentary shows the particular style of Bergoglio, his years as head of the Catholic Church in Argentina, and aimed at the construction of a new age of religion for the world. After his consecration and since the early days, Pope Francisco shows a clear intent to drive the structure of the Catholic Church with an austere attitude, with strong social concern and a clear intention to promote a new relationship between man and God.
