Murder investigation launched after man shot through window

A murder investigation has been launched after a 60-year-old man was shot through his front window.

Durham Constabulary said 35 officers are working on the probe into the death of Barry Dawson, who was shot once at his home on Elm Street, South Moor, Stanley, at around 5.20pm on Saturday. The force said doorbell camera footage showed two figures approaching the home before one smashed the window and another - wearing a hood - shot through the blinds.

A man can be heard shouting "they've killed me dad" in the footage. A 37-year-old man and a 35-year-old woman were later arrested on suspicion of conspiracy to murder.

They remain in police custody. In an update on Tuesday, Superintendent Peter Carr said the "extensive investigation" is ongoing.

"This was a frightening incident for those involved and those living nearby," he added. "I'd like to thank the local community for their patience and cooperation while we work to establish exactly what has happened."
